Greatest Fairy Tale

The Greatest Fairy Tale dreamscape consists of meters of organza fabric onto which silhouetted images are handstitched. A secondary layer made up of photographic panels is visible through the organza. The layers represent two worlds or veils and contrast an imaginary internal world with external reality.

I grew up on a pig farm, and it was here that I started understanding the difference between the stories we’re told and reality. I learnt what it means to be tamed, and this is how I sought escape. This installation portrays the kind of magical world children create with blankets to make a tent fort. As a child I hung sheets over our washing line to create a make-believe escape environment.
