As children we are socialised into gender roles which impose suitable behaviour upon us depending on whether you’re a girl or a boy. This categorisation process begins before you are even born.
Our current modes of socialisation rely on the masculine perspective, the masculine experience and the overwhelmingly loud masculine universal voice. A voice which tells us that boys and men are more, and that girls and women are less… less capable, less intelligent, less powerful and have less worth.
Children’s play toy blocks function as powerful learning tools during formative years. This work aims to underline the gendered nature of children’s introduction to learning and life, highlighting the many differences in how behaviour is instilled in girls and boys.
